A reporter who works for the Buffalo Bills has apologized for comments made on a hot mic criticizing wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Said Maddy Glab of BuffaloBills.com as reporters waited for the players to reach the podium: “I think they’re trying for Stef. Stef and Micah (Hyde) is who they’re trying. Hey, there’s no control over Stefon Diggs. Yes. He will do what he wants to do. He’ll look me in the face (and) say ‘fuck you.’ That’s how he treats everyone..”
On Monday night, Glab posted an apology.
“I want to take ownership of what I said today.” she said. “I’m very sorry for what I said and I meant no ill will. I have a lot of respect for Stefon Diggs and he’s been one of my favorite players to cover. He has great character and treats us media with a lot of respect. He takes a time out of his day to talk to us, which he doesn’t have to do. To put it in context, the media was waiting for players to attend press conferences when a reporter jokingly told me to go find Stefon Diggs. I said I have no control over him: Stef marches to the beat of his own drum and I love that about him. He has a fun relationship with our video department, which is why I said he probably wouldn’t accept me inviting him to an interview. There shouldn’t be “I said what I said and I apologize for it. Stef is not wrong, I am.”
She did the honorable thing by explaining herself. And the tone of her comments definitely seemed like a joke. Personally, I have never experienced anything but great interactions with Diggs, and I have never felt that he can be difficult or distant.
On the field, he is very intense, focused and motivated. Off the field he is a normal, nice and calm guy. Maybe he can be playful with those he sees all the time. That seemed to be his point, and his apology made it clear.
