Celebrity Race Across The World is coming to BBC One and iPlayer
It’s been five months since Race around the world The third season is over and we’ve been eagerly anticipating the celebrity version after it was teased at the end of the final episode.
And now the time has come: four celebrities and their traveling companions embark on an exciting new adventure.
The stars involved have traveled extensively in their careers, but it’s fair to say they’re not exactly used to a strict budget and two-star accommodation (and they won’t receive any special treatment).
A few days before the series premiere, here’s everything you need to know…
How does Race around the world work?
If you’ve never seen Race Across The World before, don’t worry, the concept is pretty simple.
As the title suggests, in the series teams of two compete against each other, with the journey broken up with checkpoints (usually four and then the final destination) along the way.
When they arrive at a checkpoint, each couple has to sign a book at the hotel check-in desk, giving them a chance to see how the others are doing. After resting for a set amount of time, couples leave the hotel in the order in which they arrived, with staggered departure times maintaining time differences between them.
There are some rules that also make things even more complicated. Firstly, no one is allowed to take a flight and phones are prohibited, so interacting with locals to discover the most sensible options is a must.
The budget is tight Additionally, each pair receives a wallet containing the cash it would cost to fly to the final destination from the UK. The only thing they have to help is a helpful brochure containing much-needed job opportunities where they can earn extra money along the way.
Who is in the lineup?
The Celebrity Race Across The World stars on the starting line
The famous faces taking part are star McFly. Harry Judd, Good morning Great Britain‘s Alex BeresfordAll Saints singer Melanie Blatt and racing driver Billy Monger.
Each celebrity will be joined by a family member: Alex will compete with his father Noel, while Mel and Harry will be accompanied by their mothers, Helene and Emma, respectively. Billy participates with his sister Bonny.
Where will they go?
Regular seasons of Race Across The World have seen members of the public rush from London to Singapore, hitchhike across South America and across the Canadian wilderness.
Filmed before the recent earthquake in Morocco, the celebrities will begin the race in Marrakech, the capital, traveling through 24 countries to the last checkpoint in Tromsø, Norway.
Along the way, they will “traverse all the landscapes and cultures this part of the world has to offer,” the BBC promised. Mediterranean ports, the Alps, Central Europe and snowy Scandinavia are just some of the places the 10,000 kilometer route will pass through.
Is there a trailer?
