Jessica Chastain will be honored with the Golden Icon Award at the Zurich Film Festival at its next edition, which will be held from September 28 to October 8.
The Oscar actress will attend the Swiss festival with her new film Memoryalongside director Michel Franco and co-star Peter Sarsgaard.
The film will have its Swiss premiere at the festival on October 1, after having its world premiere in Venice earlier this month and then screening in Toronto.
“Jessica Chastain is one of the most eminent actresses of her generation. Known for her clever choice of roles, she is also a virtuoso when it comes to giving her characters depth,” said ZFF artistic director Christian Jungen.
Chastain is among a handful of A-list actors still hitting festival red carpets during the actors’ strike due to the fact that independent production Memory has an interim SAG-AFTRA agreement.
He referred to his nervousness in Venice about accompanying the film to festivals while the strike continues, but said he felt it was the right thing to do to support the union.
Chastain co-stars Memory as a New York social worker whose simple, structured life—revolving around her daughter, her job, her AA meetings—is upended when a former classmate (Peter Sarsgaard) follows her home from her meeting. From high school.
Previous winners of the Golden Icon Award include Glenn Close, Hugh Grant, Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sean Penn, Sharon Stone and Sir Ben Kingsley.
