In Super Squads, The Athletic follows the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces in their quest to win a WNBA championship. Our reporters will tell the stories of players from two of the most stellar teams in league history and examine how their paths shape the future of the WNBA. All items discussed were identified using Lens in the Google app.
LAS VEGAS – Kelsey Plum is currently the longest-tenured Las Vegas Aces player. When it comes to recognizing how the city has embraced its inaugural champions, no one has felt the transformation more than Plum. And it’s fitting that no one has fallen more in love with the city than Plum, who even formed a power couple in Las Vegas when she married then-Raiders tight end Darren Waller during the offseason, although Waller was later transferred to the New York Giants. .
so when The Athletic I was looking for recommendations on where fans should go if they visit Las Vegas during the WNBA playoffs, and Plum nailed it. Here are three places to eat that the All-WNBA guard suggests to anyone catching the Aces over the next month as they begin their bid for a repeat:
GO DEEPER
NBA Jam turns 30: a classic arcade game, an iconic voice and members of the Basketball Hall of Fame
Cubanidad 1885
10575 S. East Ave #100
Henderson, NV 89052
725-217-1845
Cubanidad1885.com
The first restaurant Plum immediately recommended is Cubanidad, since she is a big fan of Cuban food. It has been one of the top two Cuban restaurants according to Best of Las Vegas for the past two years. If you are looking for a snack, empanadas and pastries are essential. For a slightly larger portion, Cuban sandwiches do the job. And for a complete meal, be sure to pair it with plantains or yucca. Even if you’re staying on the Strip and don’t want to go all the way to suburban Henderson, at least half of the foot traffic here comes from delivery orders—the food is preserved.

Hiro Sushi
9460 S Eastern Ave Ste 130
Las Vegas, NV 89123

When you walk into Sushi Hiro, you’ll see a wall of celebrity endorsements on your left. Plum wasn’t messing around with this choice; his signature is in the first column with “Go Aces” written in case it’s not clear who #10 is.
The menu here can be a little overwhelming, but the chef’s special with five different types of fish is a good place to start. Plum says he usually lets Waller order (her name is also on the wall), but prefers “crispy rice, any kind of rolls; “I like tuna, soft-shell crab and salmon.” If you order the bagels, make sure you’re really hungry or have a friend, because all 10 pieces are heavy, significantly larger than the average bagel. With these portions, it’s no surprise that the Raiders are frequent customers at Sushi Hiro, as evidenced by the Sin City Raiders sign hanging on the corner.
One more tip from Plum is to check the spelling of Sushi Hiro so you don’t end up at Sushi Hero on Flamingo Road. And if you’re a Liberty fan and in town for the WNBA Finals, rest assured, Sabrina Ionescu also says this place, according to the wall, has “the best sushi.”

After offering a fast-casual option at Cubanidad, and then a little more upscale with Sushi Hiro, it’s only fitting that Plum chose a casino restaurant for its final selection. After all, this is Las Vegas. Located in Green Valley Ranch, a resort near the Strip, Hank’s is obviously known for its steaks, but don’t sleep on the sides or the seafood. Happy hour starts at 3:30 pm, giving you plenty of time for a delicious meal before the start of the playoffs.
