Rep. Lauren Boebert, like many of us, is a person of contrasting impulses. A Politico profile on Wednesday documents her attempt to change her image as an attention-grabber who gets into nasty fights with her far-right allies in the House of Representatives. To shore up support after barely winning re-election in her solidly red Colorado district last year, Boebert is working to squash that reputation by behaving like a normal congresswoman, one who’s even willing to work with Democratic leaders in the state despite to push for impeachment in Washington. , DC “She’s really done a good job as a moderator,” a local Republican official said of the representative known for her long-time support of QAnon and for allegedly causing a mass diarrhea event at her restaurant.
But it also seems like Boebert is having a hard time abandoning her loud ways. Hours before the reputation-burning story broke, the Denver Mail reported that Boebert was expelled from a performance of the beetle juice musical on Sunday for being disruptive and ignoring requests for silence. According to an incident report from Denver Arts & Venues, the operator of the Buell Theater in downtown Denver, Boebert was vaping, singing and recording the musical, prompting four separate complaints from other patrons. (He Mail reported that the woman behind Boebert was pregnant; when he asked Boebert to stop vaping, the representative said “no.” The woman claims Boebert then called her a “sad, miserable person.” Theater staff told Boebert and the person he was with to remain silent. However, she persisted and ushers escorted the couple out during an intermission.
“They told me they wouldn’t leave,” one of the ushers said in the report. “I told them they had to leave the theater and if they didn’t, they would be trespassing. Customers said they wouldn’t leave. I told them I would call the Denver police. “They said go look for them.”
“Do you know who I am?” Boebert asked the usher, according to the report. “I will contact the mayor,” he added. The theater called the police, who remained in the lobby until Boebert and the man with her left the building. Denver Arts & Venues released security footage of the incident on Tuesday:
And the video posted Thursday showed Boebert clearly vaping:
Boebert didn’t seem too upset: After being kicked out of the theater, her date saw her wandering around in the street. The pro-police congresswoman, who, before joining Congress, was arrested four times for alleged harassment, disorderly conduct and failing to appear in court, has tried to take the whole matter in stride. “”It’s true, I really enjoyed the AMAZING Beetlejuice at the Buell Theater and I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loudly!” she tweeted. A representative also confirmed the incident with Denver. Mailalthough she denied the accusation that she was vaping, noting that the beetle juice musical features “heavy fog machines”.
