The inaugural Premier League Summer Series last July in the United States was a success for everyone involved. So much so that NBC Sports is hopeful the competition will return in 2025, a year before the 2026 World Cup begins in North America.

Speaking exclusively to World Soccer Talk, Jon Miller, President of Acquisitions and Partnerships at NBC Sports, was optimistic about the return of the competition.

“(The Premier League Summer Series) was exceptional,” Miller said. “Shortly after we had a post-mortem with the Premier League and I was with some people from the Premier League (last week). I think we were all impressed with how he did here. “I think it will hopefully be a precursor to more Premier League competitions here in the United States.”

Premier League summer series in 2025?

The 2023 edition of the Premier League Summer Series featured six teams from England. Chelsea, Brighton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham and Brentford played several games in July. In total, the games averaged more than 44,000 per game.

“Other clubs saw how well their clubs performed, but also how well they prepared their clubs for the start of the season,” Miller added. “I think everyone felt it was a huge success. “We’re hoping to do it again in a couple of years.”

With the Copa América and Euro 2024 taking up a busy summer calendar next year, 2025 looks more likely. Depending on timing, it is possible that a Premier League competition in association with NBC Sports could compete against the 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States in the summer of 2025.

It is too early to know which Premier League teams will compete in 2025 in the United States. However, it is quite possible that one or more of the group will return Newcastle, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Fulham and Brentford, as well as other teams.

“I think the teams that came and played here are eager to come back, and I think there are teams that didn’t come that are eager to step in now and come back when they come back in a couple of years.” Miller said.
